Welcome to "Help For The Homeless"
"Help for The Homeless"

Hello Everyone,
We have just built this Web Site and Blog to try and really make a difference in the people that want help at “Victory City” (Tent City). I call it Victory City because we want to confess victory in the life’s of the people living down there.
My name is Jerry Shockley, I work with Ken Jenkins he runs “Help For the Homeless” a non-profit ministry. We’re down there every Sunday holding non-denominational church services. We offer food to eat, sometimes we will BBQ, lately its been to hot to BBQ so we have been having cold cut sandwiches, salads etc. My wife and I planted a huge garden this year. We were able to bring lots of vegetables down there for them, they loved it. They also like my hot sauce “Shock Sauce”, so I’ve been bring that down there for them. I bring the really hot stuff down and they say they want it hotter. It’s really hot. I‘m surprised that they want it hotter.
There is so much we can do for them. It starts with a simple helping hand, just pitching in and helping out with what ever you can do. My gift is singing and writing songs, so I go down there and sing to them. We have a great time when the Holy Spirit starts to flow.
Let me say that it does Flow down there. You don’t have to have walls on the church for it to be a church. These services that we have down there, remind me of what it might have been like for the first century Christians. When Jesus had services outside in the country side.
So, I encourage you to get involved. This is truly the heart of God helping these wonderful people. Listen they are not what you think of homeless people. they are skilled labors, master Chefs, people that are gifted that have many talents, they have just had a bad set of events, that have caused them to be displaced.
I was homeless in Nashville when I first came to town. I moved here with no money, no drivers licenses, no means of support, except that I could work. I worked everyday that I was down there, from painting , digging retaining walls, you name it I did it. I lived down there for about a month, before I got on my feet. Listen they just need some helping hands, are you willing to give of yourself and help out?
I want this site to be a resource link to be able to provide the help and also provide a source of jobs for the people that are down there that do want to work. They and are good people and hard workers. I will start creating profiles of the people, listing their qualifications and job skills so that people can log on to the site and find the right workers they need for their project or companies.
Will you help me, help them,
God Bless
The shock

I am interested in helping through volunteering my time during the holidays of Christmas and Thanksgiving as this will be my first year alone on these holidays. I have always wanted to join in such a wonderful way to serve others as this offering of a holiday meal. Could someone please direct me toward a Church, organization, shelter or the likes which permits volunteers to serve food and a little cheer during the holidays around my neck o' the woods. I live right on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee, right around Oak Grove/Hopkinsville/Clarksville area. Let me know please what is available
